SHAMPOO SUBSTITUTE
You will need:
baking soda
water
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Directions:
1. Make a paste using one part baking soda to three parts water, and rub it all over your hair and scalp. The mixture will get rid of oils and buildup.
2. You must follow this by rinsing with 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar mixed with 1 cup of water to balance it out. Otherwise your hair will become dry and frizzy.
You can also wash your hair using a bar of soap or a small amount of dishwashing liquid if you do not have baking soda and apple cider vinegar. Though this may not result in shiny, manageable hair, at least your hair and scalp will be clean.
How long can you go without shampoo? I used to wash my hair daily with shampoo, followed by hair conditioner. I then noticed my hair started to feel dry and lifeless. I tried various shampoo brands, and nothing helped. My regular salon advised me to use other, more expensive products to correct the problem, but they did not work. I went to a different hair stylist who told me I was overusing shampoo. She said I should just rinse my hair in the shower, without using shampoo, and only use shampoo once or twice a week at the most. This also eliminated the need for hair conditioner.
The advice seemed strange to me but I tried it. My hair started looking and feeling healthy again. The point is, we may all be overusing hair products and not know it, resulting in hair problems that are easily fixed. Try cutting back your shampoo and hair product usage; you might find that both your hair and your pocketbook will be grateful.
Toothpaste
If you are in an emergency and are out of toothpaste, brush your teeth with plain baking soda. For a minty flavor, use the following recipe.
